The Sucrière in Lyon played host to an exhibition celebrating 70 years of the bikini, from 9 to 24 July. Here, we take a look at this summery event.
The bikini made its first appearance during the “water festival” at the famous Molitor pool in Paris on 5 July 1946. The two-piece garment has since appeared in multiple shapes and colours.
The exhibition, entitled “Les 70 ans du Bikini” (70 years of the bikini), recounted the history of the famous swimming costume from the 1940s to the present day.
The organisers wanted to create a poolside setting, so they contacted Fermob to supply accessories for the exhibition space, including its Luxembourg, St Tropez, Sixties and Bistro collections.
What are you sporting this summer – a one-piece swimsuit or a bikini?
Personally, I’ll be opting for an “itsy bitsy teenie weenie bikini”!
